Review of Journalism
Review of Journalism is a Canadian student magazine published each year by final-year journalism students at Toronto Metropolitan University in Toronto, Ontario. Written in English, it profiles people, issues and controversies in Canadian media and also runs weekly online features and a daily blog. The editor for Fall 2023–Spring 2024 is Prarthana Pathak. The magazine began in April 1984 under the name Ryerson Review of Journalism, started by Don Obe, who was then the chair of Ryerson’s journalism school.
Its mission has always been: What does this mean for Canadian journalism now? The publication has won National Magazine Awards and received recognition from Rolling Stone, Utne Reader, and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
In 2021, Ryerson University renamed itself Toronto Metropolitan University and moved to drop Egerton Ryerson’s name from affiliated projects. The winter 2021 issue appeared as [ ] Review of Journalism, and by September 2021 the magazine’s official name was changed to Review of Journalism. In 2024, the magazine will turn 40 and publish a special 40th-year edition. The ISSN is 0838-0651 and the website is reviewofjournalism.ca.
