Resident Evil Survivor is a light gun shooter developed by Tose and published by Capcom. It’s a spin-off from the Resident Evil series and is notable for being the first game in the franchise to use a first‑person perspective. The PlayStation version released in Japan on January 27, 2000; in Europe on March 31, 2000; and in North America on August 30, 2000. A Windows version appeared later, but only in China and Taiwan on September 7, 2002. The Japanese and European releases supported Namco’s GunCon light gun, making it one of the early off‑rail light gun games, while the North American version did not.

Story and setting
The game takes place after the missile attack that devastated Raccoon City. On Sheena Island, Umbrella’s private town is in ruins, and a helicopter crashes, leaving a pilot with amnesia. He ventures through Umbrella’s facilities, meets two siblings, Lott and Lily Klein, and learns clues about his own identity as Ark Thompson, a private detective. The investigation uncovers Umbrella’s experiments and a dangerous bio‑weapon called the Hypnos T-Type Tyrant. Ark and the Klein siblings race to escape as the island’s self-destruct sequence begins, culminating in a helicopter escape where Ark fights the final monster and flees to safety as the island explodes.

Gameplay
Survivor blends first‑person shooting with arcade‑style light gun play. Players view the world directly from the protagonist’s perspective and move using the controller, while a crosshair is used to aim and shoot. When a light gun is used, players can move around by shooting off screen and turn with other controls. The arsenal centers on pistols (like the Glock 17 and CZ75) with upgrades as the game progresses. Enemies include familiar foes from Resident Evil 2—zombies, Lickers, Ivy plants, Moth Giants, and Tyrants—along with two new foes: the Umbrella Trashsweeper soldiers and the Hypnos T-Type. The game features branching paths that affect which characters you meet and how the story unfolds.

Reception and legacy
The PlayStation version received mixed to negative reviews. Critics praised some of the 3D environments but criticized long loading times and considered it more of a cash-in than a standout title. Some outlets noted the lack of light gun support in the North American release and criticized the game's pace and control. The Survivor series would continue with sequels for PlayStation 2 using the G-Con 2 peripheral, including Resident Evil Survivor 2 – Code: Veronica (2002), Dino Stalker (2002), and Resident Evil: Dead Aim (2003).
