Port Hill drill hall was a military building in Port Hill, Hertford, Hertfordshire. Built in 1898 for the War Office, it cost £2,000 to construct and served as the headquarters of the 1st (Hertfordshire) Volunteer Battalion, The Bedfordshire Regiment. The unit later became the Hertfordshire Battalion, The Bedfordshire Regiment (1908) and then the 1st Battalion, The Hertfordshire Regiment (1909). The battalion was mobilised there in August 1914 before heading to the Western Front in World War I, and around 100,000 rounds of ammunition were stored at the hall for troops going into action. The battalion was based there when World War II began, and in 1958 it was merged into the 3rd East Anglian Regiment. The Army continued to use the drill hall for training Territorial Army personnel and cadets for a time, but it was eventually decommissioned and demolished. In 2003 a new residential development was built on the site, which won the Civic Design Award in 2004/2005.
