Ponte da Cava da Velha
Ponte da Cava da Velha, also known as Ponte Nova, is a Roman bridge in the parish of Castro Laboreiro e Lamas de Mouro, Melgaço, in northern Portugal. It was part of a Roman road that linked Portugal with Spain via Portela do Homem. The bridge was mainly built in the 1st century and was later rebuilt in the Middle Ages to its present form. It sits in a remote area inside the Peneda-Gerês National Park, about 110 meters east of the local road over the Laboreiro River, a few kilometres from Castro Laboreiro. The structure features two arches of different sizes, built on granite margins, and an irregular stone appearance with ashlar details. The roadway is paved with large slabs and protected by stone guards. The Ponte da Cava da Velha is protected as a National Monument.
