Podocarpus capuronii is an endangered conifer found only in Madagascar. It grows in the island’s highlands at elevations from about 1,320 to 2,800 meters, including subalpine ericoid thickets. It prefers infertile sandy soils over quartzite or gneiss, on rocky slopes, ridges, and along streams in ravines. The plant grows slowly and is stunted on open sandy sites, but in forests it can reach up to about 20 meters tall. The name capuronii honors French botanist René Capuron.
