Phrynoponera bequaerti is a very small ant from Africa. It belongs to the subfamily Ponerinae. It is about as common and widespread as Phrynoponera gabonensis and is the smallest species in its genus. It is easy to recognize because of its tiny size, the absence of teeth on its clypeus, and short, broad segments of its antennae (funicular). Unlike P. gabonensis and P. sveni, it has not been found in termite mounds. The species was described by Wheeler in 1922.
