Pittsburg is an unincorporated community in Van Buren County, Iowa. It sits at about 40.75°N, 91.99°W. The town was laid out in 1839 and was originally called Rising Sun, renamed to honor Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1925, about 80 people lived there, and by 1940 the population was around 55. Phil Stong, the author, was born in Pittsburg on January 27, 1899.
