Pink Typhoon (In the Navy) is Pink Lady's twelfth single, released on May 1, 1979. It reached No. 6 on the Oricon charts and No. 5 on Japanese Music Labo. It was the duo’s first single not written by Shunichi Tokura and Yū Aku. The song is a Japanese cover of Village People’s “In the Navy,” with new Japanese lyrics that have nothing to do with the original. In the chorus, “In the navy” is replaced with “Pink Lady,” and “They want you as a new recruit” becomes “I want you, you want Mie / I want you, you want Kei,” referring to members Mie and Kei. In the same year, Teppei Shibuya released a cover titled “Young Sailor Man (In The Navy).” Billboard noted that Victor Records pitted the original and Pink Lady’s cover against each other. The song appeared on The Best Ten, where it peaked at No. 6, and the single sold about 700,000 copies.
