Pilvai consists of seven subdivision villages: Pilvai proper, Patelpura (Pilvai), Veda (Pilvai), Fatepura (Pilvai), Ramnagar (Pilvai), Khanusha (Pilvai), and Kotadi (Pilvai).
The village has a very old Vishwakarma temple belonging to the Suthar community.
The biggest festival is Makar Sakranti, also called Uttarayan or the Kite Festival, usually on 14 January. People take time off work, and schools and colleges close for the day. As winter ends and spring and summer come, the celebration includes feeding sacred animals like street dogs in the early morning, singing bhajans in the streets, and praying for world peace. People fly colorful fighter kites and, if it is sunny, spend the day on the streets or on rooftops. A special lunch of Undhiyu and Jalebi is enjoyed.
