Band-e Qir
Band-e Qir (meaning “bitumen dam”) is a village in Miyan Ab Rural District, Central District, Shushtar County, Khuzestan Province, Iran. In 2006 it had 446 residents in 73 families.
The site sits at the location of two ancient settlements. In the Sasanian era, Rustam Kuwādh flourished here but was destroyed during the Arab-Muslim conquests in the 7th century. Nearby, ʿAskar Mukram was founded near where the Āb-i Gargar canal meets the Karun River. In the 10th century, the Hudūd al-ʿĀlam described ʿAskar Mukram as a large, prosperous town on both sides of the Āb-i Gargar, and a Buyid mint operated there. In the Middle Ages the town declined, but the ruins of ʿAskar Mukram remain at Band-e Qir. A notable past resident was Abū Hilāl al-ʿAskarī.
