Phyllonorycter lautella
Phyllonorycter lautella is a tiny moth of the family Gracillariidae found across Europe, except the Mediterranean islands. It has a wingspan of about 6–7 mm. The head is black and the face is leaden, with white at the tip of the antennae. The forewings are ochreous-orange or golden-brown and feature a distinctive silvery-white median streak from the base to two-thirds of the wing, sometimes followed by an interrupted central band. There are two silvery-white spots near the front edge and two near the back edge, all edged with black.
There are two generations per year, with adults on wing in May and again in August.
Larvae feed by mining the leaves of oaks: Quercus dalechamii, Quercus petraea, and Quercus robur.
Taxonomy: Binomial name Phyllonorycter lautella (Zeller, 1846). Synonyms include Lithocolletis lautella and Lithocolletis irmella.
