Pernik Province
Pernik Province is in western Bulgaria, near the border with Serbia. The capital is Pernik. The province has six municipalities: Pernik, Breznik, Kovachevtsi, Radomir, Tran, and Zemen.
It covers 2,390.5 square kilometers. As of December 2022, about 111,746 people lived there, giving a population density of around 46.7 people per square kilometer. The time zone is Eastern European Time (UTC+2) and Eastern European Summer Time (UTC+3) in summer. The license plate code is PK. The governor is Irena Sokolova. The coordinates are roughly 42°35′N, 23°00′E. A notable feature is the Tran Gorge near the Serbia border.
Economy and jobs: Industry is very important. Pernik is a major manufacturing centre in Bulgaria, with the Stomana steel complex, heavy machinery, mining equipment, building materials, and textiles. There is a large heavy-machinery plant in Radomir that makes excavators and similar equipment, but it is not operating at full capacity.
Demographics: In 2011 the province had about 133,500 residents, with roughly equal numbers of men and women.
