Perfect Vision
Perfect Vision is the eighth solo album by American musician Thalia Zedek. It was released on August 27, 2021, by Thrill Jockey. The record was recorded from late 2020 to January 6, 2021 at Machines with Magnets in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and runs 46 minutes and 21 seconds. It is credited to the Thalia Zedek Band and blends alternative rock, blues rock, and indie rock. Seth Manchester produced the album, and Sarah Register mastered it.
Perfect Vision follows Zedek’s 2018 album Fighting Season. The writing and recording happened during a turbulent political period, and the album was finished on the day of the January 6 Capitol attack, with some reviews noting it feels angrier or more overtly political than Fighting Season.
The track “Tolls” features Alison Chesley (Helen Money) on cello and piano. Metacritic gives the album a 71 out of 100, based on four critics, indicating generally favorable reviews. Dusted’s Jennifer Kelly praises its strong, cohesive sound and says every element fits without feeling forced. AllMusic’s Mark Deming notes that the album offers a hard, honest look at the world and remains powerful. All tracks are written by Thalia Zedek.
