Penny Pratt
Penny Pratt is an Australian politician and member of the Liberal Party. She has served in the South Australian House of Assembly since March 2022, representing the district of Frome. The seat had been held by Independent Geoff Brock since 2009, who moved to contest Stuart after electoral boundaries changed.
Pratt previously ran for the seats of Ashford in 2010 and Cheltenham in 2018, where she faced Premier Jay Weatherill. She grew up on a farm near Blyth and worked as a Liberal staffer for Steven Marshall, then as chief of staff to Minister for Child Protection Rachel Sanderson. She took leave from that role in December 2021 after moving to the Clare Valley within the Frome electorate.
Her father, Michael Pratt, was a federal MP for Adelaide from a 1988 by-election until 1990. Her cousin Tom Michael ran as a Liberal candidate for Narungga in 2022.
During her campaign, Pratt emphasized her local ties. She had proposed renaming Frome in honour of former Liberal premier Steele Hall, but the seat will be renamed Ngadjuri from 2026, named after the Ngadjuri people who traditionally live in South Australia’s mid-north region.
