Paul Maher Jr.
Paul Maher Jr., born in 1963 in Amarillo, Texas, is an American author, book critic, photographer and filmmaker known for his work on Jack Kerouac. He grew up in Lowell, Massachusetts after moving there as a child. After graduating from Dracut High School, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Persian Gulf aboard the USS Ramsey. He returned to Lowell, studied at Middlesex Community College and the University of Massachusetts Lowell, earning a bachelor’s degree in American studies and a master’s in Education with a focus on English.
Since 2004, Maher has written and edited five books. He is currently rewriting his book about Kerouac’s On the Road. His other projects include transcribing and annotating Henry David Thoreau’s Extracts Related to the Indians, and a film project called Kalendar based on Thoreau’s natural history writings. He is also researching a book on Terrence Malick’s 2017 film The Voyage of Time. He has two daughters, Rachel and Chloe.
