Paul Caplin
Paul Caplin (born 31 December 1954) is an English musician, songwriter, producer and technology entrepreneur. He studied mathematics at Imperial College London and Cambridge University. He began his music career as a founding member of Animal Magnet, a band signed to EMI that supported Duran Duran on their first national tour. He later created Haysi Fantayzee with Jeremy Healy and Kate Garner, a quirky 1980s act that mixed reggae, country and electro with satirical lyrics. The group had several hits and a gold album before breaking up. Caplin also started his own label, The Love Organization, and helped manage Marilyn, co-writing some of his hit songs.
In business and technology, Caplin founded Caplin Cybernetics in 1985, which became an IBM partner and was later bought by the Infinet Group, where he served as co-founder and chief executive. He also moved into film, executive producing the BBC documentary Pavarotti in Confidence in 1994. In 2000 he launched Caplin Systems Ltd, a fintech company that distributed real-time financial data online and helped create early online trading platforms. He was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2001, and Caplin Systems appeared in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 in 2002 and 2009. The company was sold in 2015, after which Caplin returned to making music.
Since 2015 Caplin has worked with singer Zeeteah Massiah. They married in 2016 and have written and produced three albums together: Juice (2014), Maybe Tomorrow (2016) and Wat A Ting (2022). In 2024 they began performing as Caplin & Massiah, releasing three singles and an album to acclaim. In 2025 the album Wat a Ting was rebranded as a Caplin & Massiah release.
