Paul Birdsall Prize
The Paul Birdsall Prize is a biennial award for historians given by the American Historical Association. It was created with a donation from Hans W. Gatzke, who kept his gift anonymous until his death. The prize is named after Paul M. Birdsall, a historian of European diplomacy and military affairs and a foreign service officer. Preference goes to early-career scholars, but established scholars and nonacademic candidates can also be considered. Books published in English with a copyright year of 2016 or 2017 are eligible for the 2018 prize. Past winners of the prize include:
