Tom Hinton
Tom Hinton (born 1936) is a former American football guard who played nine seasons in the Canadian Football League for the BC Lions (1958–1966). He wore number 54, stood 6 feet tall, and weighed about 225 pounds. Hinton attended Louisiana Tech University, where he earned three All-GSC selections and helped win the Gulf States Conference title; he was later inducted into the Louisiana Tech Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987.
In the CFL, Hinton was a Western All-Star as a rookie in 1958. In 1959 he was named both the league’s Outstanding Lineman and its Outstanding Player. He earned CFL All-Star honors in 1963 and 1966 and was a five-time CFL West All-Star (1958, 1959, 1963, 1964, 1966). He helped the Lions win the Grey Cup in 1964 and played in all 16 regular-season games in seven of his nine seasons, establishing himself as one of the franchise’s best offensive linemen.
Hinton was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1991 and the BC Sports Hall of Fame in 1992.
