P. D. Mehigan
Patrick D. Mehigan (17 March 1884 – 4 December 1965) was an Irish sportsman and journalist. He was born in Ardfield, County Cork, to Denis and Margaret Mehigan (Peg, née Donovan). He played hurling with Robert Emmets GAA and later for the London senior inter-county team in the early 1900s. Mehigan later became a leading Gaelic games journalist from the 1920s to the 1940s. He wrote several histories of the Gaelic Athletic Association and was a Cork Examiner correspondent under the pen name Carbery. He covered many games, including Cork v Tipperary, one of the first matches broadcast on radio, helping to raise interest in hurling. He was among the most widely read sports writers of his time. He also wrote for The Irish Times under the byline Pat O.
