Over the years he partnered with several skaters for Georgia. With Marina Sheltsina, he won the Georgian national title in 2004. They trained in Mount Laurel, New Jersey under coach Evgeni Platov. At the 2009 Nebelhorn Trophy they earned Georgia a spot for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Reed obtained Georgian citizenship in January 2010, which allowed them to compete in Vancouver. Reed and Japaridze competed at the 2010 Winter Olympics, but they split after the 2010–11 season. In February 2012 he began skating with Angelina Telegina to continue competing for Georgia.
His father, Irakli Japaridze, is the president of the Georgian Figure Skating Federation.
