Ongwediva Constituency
Ongwediva Constituency is an electoral district in the Oshana Region of northern Namibia. The district capital is the town of Ongwediva. The constituency covers about 222 square kilometers (86 square miles) and had a population of 34,065 in 2011, up from 26,700 in 2001. There were 22,061 registered voters in 2020.
Politics
Ongwediva has historically been a stronghold of the SWAPO party.
- 2004 regional elections: SWAPO candidate Silverius Thikameni Ekandjo won with 7,834 of 8,073 votes.
- 2010 regional elections: SWAPO’s Vinia Abisai won with 7,565 votes, defeating Nelson Katenda (RDP) with 686 votes and Lukas Naingungo (CoD) with 70.
- 2015 regional elections: Andreas Uutoni (SWAPO) won with 6,249 votes, well ahead of Peter Mandeinge (RDP) with 418 votes.
- 2020 regional elections: Councillor Andreas Uutoni (SWAPO) was reelected, beating Michael Mwashindange of the IPC by 4,914 votes to 2,025.
