Omar Amr
Omar Amr (born September 20, 1974) is a former American water polo player. He competed for the United States at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where the team finished seventh. Amr was born in Bellflower, California, and attended Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton. He played college water polo at the University of California, Irvine, earning honorable mention All-American in 1994 and second-team All-American in 1995 and 1996, while earning a biology degree.
He was cut from the 2000 Olympic team due to a late injury but made the 2004 team after improvements in strength, speed, and defense. While training for the Olympics, he attended Harvard Medical School and would travel on weekends from Boston to Orange County to train with his teammates. After the Games, he coached the MIT men's water polo team during the 2004 season while finishing his medical degree at Harvard.
As of 2020, Amr is an emergency room physician practicing in Orange County and Stockton. He also earned a medal with the U.S. team at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo.
