Old Government House was the official home of Tasmania’s Governor in Hobart from around 1807 until 1858. It was built sometime between 1805 and 1810, though the exact dates vary. In 1831 it also housed the Tasmanian Parliament and was the meeting place for the Tasmanian Society, a forerunner of the Royal Society of Tasmania.

The Tasmanian Parliament moved to a new building in 1841, and after the new Government House was finished, the old house was demolished in 1858. The site had been set aside for a Town Hall and a Franklin monument, which were later built there and still stand today, near Hobart Town Hall and Franklin Square.
