Now (Paramore song)
Now is a song by American rock band Paramore. It was released January 22, 2013, as the lead single from their self-titled fourth album, with radio impact on January 29, 2013. Recorded in 2012 in Los Angeles, the track runs 4 minutes and 7 seconds and is written by Hayley Williams and Taylor York, produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen and York. It is the first Paramore single from a studio album without former members Josh and Zac Farro, who left in 2010. The song blends pop-punk and alternative rock and is in the key of C major.
Now was meant to show Paramore moving forward. Williams said the first half of the record was about getting to a new place, and by the end of Now they felt they had reached it and could focus on what’s next.
Critics praised Now for its production, lyrics, and Williams’s vocal performance. It achieved moderate commercial success, reaching the top 20 on Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs and Alternative Songs charts. The track is also playable in Rocksmith 2014.
The music video, directed by Daniel Cloud Campos and inspired by Banksy artwork, features Williams in a foggy field with a soldier and a grenade, followed by an action-filled sequence. Williams explains that the video conveys that love wins in the end. The video premiered on MTV February 11, 2013, and was uploaded to YouTube the next day.
In Paramore’s singles chronology, Now sits after Monster (2011) and before Still Into You (2013).
