Nikolay Dementyev
Nikolay Timofeyevich Dementyev (July 27, 1915 – June 5, 1994) was a Soviet football striker and later a coach. He began playing in 1929 for the S. Khalturin Factory team in Leningrad, and also played for Dynamo Leningrad, Spartak Leningrad, and DKA. In 1940 he moved to Dynamo Moscow, and after World War II he played for Spartak Leningrad from 1946 to 1954, finishing his playing career in 1954.
He appeared for the USSR national team in 1952 in eight unofficial matches, debuting on May 24, 1952, against Hungary (1–1). He began coaching in 1956, working with FSzM Moscow, Spartak Moscow (1959–1965), Karpaty Lviv (1965–1966), Shinnik Yaroslavl (1967–1968), and a Moscow club from 1969 to 1983. Dementyev won Soviet league titles in 1940 (Dynamo Moscow) and in 1952 and 1953 (Spartak Leningrad), and the USSR Cup in 1946, 1947, and 1953. He played 273 Soviet championship matches and scored 89 goals. He died in Moscow in 1994. His brother Pyotr Dementyev was also a footballer.
