Neil Cochran
Neil Cochran (born 12 April 1965) is a Scottish former swimmer who competed for Great Britain at the Olympics, European Championships and World University Games, and for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in the 1980s. He swam in medley and freestyle events.
Career highlights
- 1982 Commonwealth Games (Brisbane): At 17, Cochran won bronze as part of Scotland’s 4×200m freestyle relay team.
- 1984 Los Angeles Olympics: He won two bronze medals—one in the 4×200m freestyle relay with teammates Paul Easter, Paul Howe and Andrew Astbury, and one in the 200m individual medley. He also reached the B Final in the 200m backstroke, finishing 14th overall.
- 1986 Commonwealth Games (Edinburgh): He won bronze in the 200m individual medley and swam in several other events.
- 1987 Summer Universiade (Zagreb): Cochran won gold in the 200m individual medley.
- 1987 European Championships (Strasbourg): He won silver as part of Great Britain’s 4×100m medley relay team.
- 1988 Seoul Olympics: He qualified for three individual events. He was eliminated in the heats of the 100m backstroke but reached the B Finals in the 100m butterfly and the 200m individual medley, finishing 16th and 11th overall.
National achievements
- At the ASA National British Championships, Cochran won the 100m backstroke title in 1988, the 100m butterfly title in 1987, and the 200m butterfly title in 1987.
