Neale McDermott

Neale Terence McDermott (born 8 March 1985) is a retired English footballer who played as a midfielder. He grew up in Newcastle and came through the Newcastle United academy. After a bullying controversy at the academy, he left for Fulham in 2003. He had loan spells at Swindon Town and Darlington, then joined Carlisle United in 2006, where he played 15 league games and scored 3 goals. He later played for La Louvière in Belgium and finished his playing career with Gateshead in the National League, totaling 42 league appearances and 6 goals.

After football, McDermott moved into marketing and football recruitment, working with Red Bull and Adidas on endorsements. In 2017 he joined Sunderland as Head of Academy Recruitment and later worked in first-team recruitment. He left in 2018 after Sunderland were relegated and then became a football agent. He attended Ponteland High School. He is the son of former England international Terry McDermott; his brother Greg played for Newcastle United’s reserves and later for several other clubs.
