Najwa Mahiaddin
Najwa binti Mahiaddin, born on 26 April 1986 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is a Malaysian singer, songwriter and record producer who performs as NJWA. She is the daughter of Malaysia’s 8th Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin, and Noorainee Abdul Rahman.
From a young age, Najwa loved singing, but her parents encouraged her to study something practical. She studied electronics at the University of Melbourne and joined student singing contests. After sharing some songs on Myspace and getting involved in the Malaysian music scene, she decided to pursue music full-time. She studied music at the International College Of Music (ICOM) in Kuala Lumpur and later attended Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2011. To avoid accusations of nepotism, she chose the stage name Mahiaddin.
Najwa has performed at major Malaysian events such as Youth ’09 and No Black Tie. In 2008 she sang the chorus on Malique Ibrahim’s album OK for the track “Kau Yang Punya,” which is based on The Roots’ “You Got Me.” Her debut album, Innocent Soul, was released in 2011 and is entirely in English.
She won Best Newcomer and Best English-language Song (Got To Go) at the 18th Anugerah Industri Muzik. Najwa married Idris Koh Keng Hui on 26 March 2015 at Sri Satria, the Deputy Prime Minister’s residence. The couple has a daughter born in 2021.
