2000 United States Shadow Senator election in the District of Columbia
The 2000 District of Columbia Shadow Senator election was held on November 7, 2000. Shadow Senators represent the District in the U.S. Senate, but they are not officially seated in Congress.
Incumbent Florence Pendleton, a Democrat, was re-elected to a third term with little opposition. Primary elections occurred on September 12, 2000. Pendleton faced no opposition in the Democratic primary. Janet Helms, listed as the Republican nominee, withdrew before the election.
Pendleton won about 89% of the vote, with 143,578 votes to Helms’s 16,666 (10.3%).
