Murder Most Foul

Murder Most Foul is the twelfth episode of the sixth season of Once Upon a Time, which aired on March 12, 2017. The story moves between a past look at Robert’s death and the present-day struggles of David, Hook, Regina, and Robin in Storybrooke and the Wish Realm.

In the Enchanted Forest flashbacks:
- Ruth and Robert have twins, David and James. James is very sick, and Rumplestiltskin makes a deal to help them in exchange for James.
- Rumple locates James at Pleasure Island. When Robert goes there to bring James home, King George orders James’s whereabouts kept secret.

- David begins having visions from his father, pushing him to uncover the real story behind Robert’s death.

In Storybrooke (present day):
- David becomes obsessed with finding out the truth about his father’s death. Hook is uneasy about David’s fixation but agrees to help.
- The pair chase clues that Robert may be on Pleasure Island. August tries to stop them by removing pages from a book that could reveal more.
- David confronts Albert (Rumplestiltskin) in the asylum, but Hook intervenes and puts Albert back in jail.
- David forgives Hook after learning his actions helped the truth come out. Hook asks Emma to marry him, and David gives him his blessing.

In the Wish Realm storyline:
- Regina’s decision to restore Robin from the Wish Realm unsettles Zelena and Regina, and Regina questions how Robin fits into her world.
- Robin disappears from Storybrooke, and Regina learns he has been seeking a powerful item in her vault.
- Regina and Robin share a kiss and decide to start fresh, while Regina continues to grapple with the consequences of bringing him back.
- Hook is confronted by August, who reveals the real reason he tore pages from the book: he uncovers that Robert killed David’s father. Hook hides these pages from Emma, creating tension about Emma’s engagement to Hook.
- The episode ends with Emma kissing Hook and Hook worrying about how his past might affect their future.

Note: Emilie de Ravin is credited but does not appear in this episode. The title Murder Most Foul comes from a line in Hamlet.
