Morgan Sparks
Morgan Sparks (July 6, 1916 – May 3, 2008) was an American scientist and engineer who helped bring transistors into everyday use. In 1951, at Bell Labs, he developed the microwatt bipolar junction transistor, a key step that made transistors practical for common electronics. Sparks stayed at Bell Labs during the early transistor years and later became the director of Sandia National Laboratories.
Early life and education:
Sparks was born in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. He earned a BA and an MA in chemistry from Rice University and did PhD work in physical chemistry at the University of Illinois, Urbana.
Career:
After Bell Labs, Sparks served as director of Sandia National Laboratories, contributing to advanced research and national science projects.
