Moods...Moments
Moods...Moments is Monifah’s first studio album, released March 26, 1996, by Uptown Records. Recorded in 1995, the R&B set runs about 62 minutes and was mostly produced by Heavy D, with additional work from Poke & Tone, Kip Collins, Vincent Herbert, Rheji Burrell, Spaceman Patterson, and Red Hot Lover Tone. The album reached number 42 on the US Billboard 200 and number 6 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
Three singles charted from the album: "I Miss You (Come Back Home)" (December 1995), "You" (May 14, 1996), and "You Don't Have to Love Me" (January 14, 1997), plus "I Still Love You" (1996). The lead single "I Miss You (Come Back Home)" and the follow-up "You" were both certified Gold, with "You" peaking at number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track "Nobody's Body" was featured on the soundtrack for the 1995 film To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar.
Music critics highlighted Monifah’s rich, soulful voice as the album’s strength. AllMusic’s Leo Stanley praised her vocal talent and Heavy D’s strong song choices, noting a few weaker moments but calling Moods...Moments a stellar debut overall.
