The South (song)
The South is a country and Southern rock song by The Cadillac Three. It features guest vocals from Dierks Bentley, Florida Georgia Line, and Mike Eli of Eli Young Band. It was the band's debut release for Big Machine Records and appears on the album Bury Me in My Boots. The track was written by Jaren Johnston, who said he wanted a live-show friendly song inspired by Led Zeppelin’s Kashmir and the feel of Sweet Home Alabama. The song, released on December 3, 2013, runs 4 minutes and 36 seconds and was produced by Dann Huff and Justin Niebank. The music video was directed by Shane Drake. Critics gave it positive reviews, praising its Southern rock vibe and Johnston’s vocals. By May 2014, it had sold about 165,000 copies in the United States.
