Mladkov
Mladkov (German: Wichstadtl) is a market town in the Ústí nad Orlicí District of the Pardubice Region in the Czech Republic. It has about 542 residents (2025). The town covers 12.8 square kilometers and sits around 508 meters above sea level. It lies in the Orlické Mountains on the right bank of the Tichá Orlice River, about 21 km northeast of Ústí nad Orlicí and 59 km east of Pardubice. The highest nearby point is Vysoký kámen, at 843 meters. Mladkov consists of four parts.
The first written mention of Mladkov dates to 1350. It belonged to the Žampach estate until the early 1500s, when a small wooden fortress was built and Mladkov became its own estate. By 1548 the fortress was in ruins. From 1938 to 1945 the town was annexed by Nazi Germany as part of Reichsgau Sudetenland, and after World War II the German population was expelled.
Mladkov lies on the Ústí nad Orlicí–Moravský Karlov railway line. The main landmark is the Church of Saint John the Baptist, a rural early Baroque church from 1697 that was modified in 1736–1744 and in 1842. The site also features a statue of St. John of Nepomuk from 1756.
