Michael Sagmeister (born July 27, 1959, in Frankfurt, West Germany) is a German jazz guitarist. He first gained attention in 1975 at the Frankfurt Jazz Festival. In 1976 he started the Michael Sagmeister Trio with bassist Udo Kistner and drummer Michael Kuettner, which became his most successful group. In the 1980s he toured as a supporting act with the United Jazz and Rock Ensemble and became well known in the jazz scene. He was a lecturer at Berklee College of Music in Boston from 1993 to 1997. In 1999 he became a tenured professor at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. He has published three primers on jazz guitar.
