Michael Harish
Michael Harish, born November 28, 1936 in Timișoara, Romania, is a former Israeli politician. He moved to Israel in 1950 and served in the Golani Brigade. He earned a BA in economics and political science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. A member of the Labor Party, he was elected to the Knesset on the Alignment list in 1973 and re-elected in 1977, 1981, 1984, 1988, and 1992. He chaired the subcommittee on energy and later became Labor Party general secretary. In 1992 he was appointed Minister of Industry and Trade in Yitzhak Rabin’s government, serving until 1996, when he lost his seat and cabinet position. Since January 23, 2011, he has served as the temporary chairman of the Labor Party following Ehud Barak’s resignation.
