Arnold D'Ambrosa
Arnold J. D'Ambrosa (December 1, 1932 – February 9, 2018) was an American politician who served in the New Jersey General Assembly from the 22nd district from 1974 to 1976. He was the Rahway Democratic Municipal Chairman and the city’s Director of Public Works. Elected in 1973, helped by the Watergate wave, he and running mate Betty Wilson defeated two Republican incumbents, Herbert H. Kiehn and Arthur Manner. He took office in January 1974.
In July 1974 he was arrested on charges including selling a Rahway city air conditioner for $600 and keeping the money, taking a $200 bribe, lying to a grand jury, and misusing city assets for work on his vacation home in Point Pleasant. He remained in office but did not run for a second term in 1975. In January 1976 he was sentenced to nine months in jail after admitting to embezzlement, bribery, perjury, and official misconduct; Rahway fired him from his Public Works job.
After prison he moved to Point Pleasant, where he ran a nautical supply business. He later became a Republican and supported Republican candidates. Arnold D'Ambrosa died on February 9, 2018 in Brick Township, New Jersey.
