Merenna Francis de Silva Jayaratne
Merenna Francis de Silva Jayaratne, CCS (born 12 July 1904) was a Sri Lankan civil servant and diplomat. He earned a BA from the University of London and joined the Ceylon Civil Service in 1927. He held many roles across the country, including Police Magistrate of Jaffna, assistant government agent in Matale, Mullaittivu, Matara and Nuwara Eliya, and Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Lands. He also worked as Deputy Controller of Textiles, Director of Commerce, and Acting Director of Education.
He became Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Commerce and Trade in 1951 and Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Transport and Works in 1953. In diplomacy, he was Ceylon's Ambassador to the United States from 1963 to 1965 and then Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 1965 to 1967.
