Cycling at the 2004 Summer Olympics
Cycling at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens featured 18 events across three disciplines: track cycling at the Olympic Velodrome, mountain biking at Parnitha, and road cycling around Athens and the surrounding area. The events ran from August 14 to 24, with 464 cyclists from 61 nations (334 men and 130 women).
The youngest rider was Ignatas Konovalovas at 18, and the oldest was Jeannie Longo at 45. The most decorated athlete was Bradley Wiggins, who won three medals: one gold, one silver, and one bronze. Australia led the cycling medals with 6 golds and 11 in total, while Russia won 3 golds and Great Britain 2 golds.
In the men’s time trial, Viatcheslav Ekimov of Russia was awarded his second gold after a disqualification, defending his 2000 title and earning his third career gold overall (his first came in 1988 as part of the Soviet track pursuit team). Australia also dominated the track events, taking 5 of its 6 track gold medals.
