Melanie Jue
Melanie Jue, born March 30, 1988, in Richmond, British Columbia, is a Canadian ice hockey defenceman and coach. She plays for the KRS Vanke Rays and has coached for China’s national team.
She studied at Cornell University from 2006 to 2010, where she played for the Cornell Big Red women’s hockey team and was also a goalie on the field hockey team. In 106 NCAA games she scored 41 points, including two goals in the NCAA championship game in her senior year as Cornell lost in triple overtime.
From 2012 to 2015 she coached at the Pursuit of Excellence Academy in British Columbia. From 2015 to 2017 she was an assistant coach for the Lindenwood Lady Lions.
In 2017 she signed with Kunlun Red Star WIH of the CWHL. She had 10 points in 28 games in her rookie season, helping the team reach the 2018 Clarkson Cup final. The team merged with the Vanke Rays in 2018 and later moved to the Zhenskaya Hockey League in Russia after 2019.
She has represented Canada in women’s ball hockey at the World Championships. She served as an assistant coach for the Chinese national ice hockey team in the 2021–22 season. Her cousin is Bryan Chiu, a former CFL player for the Montreal Alouettes.
