Mel Anderson
Mel Anderson (born August 29, 1965) is a former NFL player who was a wide receiver and return specialist. He played college football for the Minnesota Golden Gophers and was an all-American in track and field at Steel Valley High School in Munhall, Pennsylvania. Undrafted in 1987, he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, then joined the Pittsburgh Steelers, appearing in two games as a returner. He had seven punt returns for 38 yards and one kickoff for 8 yards, totaling 46 return yards in the NFL.
After football, Anderson became a track coach in Minnesota, founding Maximum Impact Training in Minneapolis. In 1999, he started Track Minnesota Elite to help high school athletes earn college scholarships.
Family history: his wife Lisa ran track at Minnesota. His son Isaac played wide receiver at Wisconsin; daughter Taylor ran track at UConn; and daughter Elise ran track at Illinois State.
