Md. Akhter Hossain Khan is a Bangladeshi soil scientist and academic who has been the Vice-Chancellor of the State University of Bangladesh since 2025. He is a Grade One Professor in the Department of Soil, Water and Environment at the University of Dhaka. He earned his BSc (1981) and MSc (1982) in Soil Science from the University of Dhaka and a PhD in Agronomy from Kansas State University in 1996. He began his career at the University of Dhaka as a Research Assistant in 1986 and has held roles including Scientific Officer and Associate Professor; since December 2004, he has been a Grade One Professor. He also served as Provost of Amar Ekushey Hall from 2001 to 2007, and his research focuses on agronomy, soil physics, and soil water management.
