General Service Medal 2008 (GSM 08)

The GSM 08 is a UK campaign medal awarded to Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army, and RAF personnel for operations since January 2008 that do not qualify for another campaign medal. It was established in 2015, with the first awards on 12 June 2016.

Description:
- Medal: circular silver, 36 mm in diameter
- Obverse: portrait of Queen Elizabeth II
- Reverse: Britannia with a trident and a lion, inscription FOR CAMPAIGN SERVICE, all within an oak leaf wreath
- Suspension bar: same design as the earlier GSM medals
- Ribbon: 32 mm wide, dark green with purple edges

Clasps (denoting geographic areas, not specific operations):
- Southern Asia
- Arabian Peninsula
- Northern Africa
- Western Africa
- Eastern Africa
- Gulf of Aden
- Global Operations

More clasps may be added for future qualifying operations, with service in those operations shown by adding clasps to the same medal.
