2011–12 Slovenian PrvaLiga
The 2011–12 Slovenian PrvaLiga was the 21st season of Slovenia’s top football league. It ran from 16 July 2011 to 26 May 2012, with a winter break from 4 December 2011 to 2 March 2012. Maribor were the defending champions.
Primorje were relegated after finishing last in 2010–11 and were replaced by Mura 05, who joined the league for the first time. Mura 05 were invited after Aluminij, Interblock and Dravinja declined promotion for financial reasons. With Nafta and Mura 05 in the league, the Prekmurje region had two top-flight teams for the first time since 1999–2000.
Format: Ten teams played each other four times (home and away twice), for a total of 36 matches per team (180 matches in the season).
Champions: Maribor won the title (their 10th). Nafta were relegated.
European places: Maribor qualified for the Champions League; Olimpija earned a spot in the Europa League.
Individual awards: Dare Vršič was the best player and top scorer with 22 goals.
Notable results and records: Biggest home win was Maribor 8–0 Triglav; biggest away win Nafta 0–6 Olimpija; the highest-scoring game was also Maribor 8–0 Triglav. Longest winning run: 7 games by Maribor; longest unbeaten: 14 games by Maribor; longest winless: 18 games by Nafta; longest losing: 7 games by Triglav.
Attendance: Highest attendance was 12,500 for Maribor 2–2 Olimpija; lowest attendance 100 for Triglav 1–1 Nafta. Total attendance 246,290; average per game 1,368.
Relegation play-off: The ninth-placed team, Triglav Kranj, faced Dob (the runners-up of the 2011–12 Second League) in a two-legged playoff. Triglav lost 6–0 on aggregate but remained in PrvaLiga because Dob declined promotion for financial reasons.
