Marsden Madoka
Marsden Herman Madoka (born March 15, 1943) is a Kenyan statesman, businessman, and former military officer. He grew up in Mwatate, Taita-Taveta County, Kenya, and attended Hospital Hill Primary School and Shimo La Tewa High School. He also participated in the Outward Bound Kenya leadership program.
Madoka began his career in the Kenya Army and rose to the rank of Major. In 1966, at age 22, he became the first Aide-de-Camp to President Jomo Kenyatta. He later entered politics and served as Member of Parliament for Mwatate from 1997 to 2007.
In government, Madoka held several key posts:
- Minister of State for Provincial Administration and National Security (2003–2004)
- Minister for Foreign Affairs (2000–2002)
- Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs (1998–2000)
Outside government, he worked in business as General Manager of New Products at East African Breweries Limited. He also served as Chairman of the Kenya Ports Authority and as Chairman of Outward Bound Kenya, supporting youth leadership development. He founded the annual Madoka Half Marathon in Taita-Taveta County, backed by sponsors such as Safaricom and the Kenya Ports Authority.
Personal life: Madoka is married to Elizabeth Mumbi Madoka, who was crowned Miss Uhuru in 1963 and served as President Kenyatta’s secretary.
Honours: He has been recognised with the Elder in the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (EGH). He has also held and advanced in the Order of Saint John, including MStJ (1988), CStJ (2004), KStJ (2012), and GCStJ (2020).
