Maria Mikaela Markuntytär Ylipää, born on 8 August 1981 in Ylöjärvi, Finland, is a Finnish singer and actress. She has starred in the musical Kristina från Duvemåla (Helsinki 2012, Göteborg 2014, Stockholm 2015) and appeared in films such as Keisarikunta (2004) and Pietà (2007). On television, she has acted in Rikospoliisi Maria Kallio (2003), Tappajan näköinen mies (2011) and Luottomies (2016). She has performed in major theatres in Helsinki, Tampere, Swedish Theatre, Gothenburg Opera and Stockholm Circus. Ylipää has sung with Jukka Leppilampi, Jiri Kurose and Jarmo Savolainen, and on the Dallapé Orchestra album Soittajan sussu (2011). She released a solo album Onerva and a joint album with Emma Salokoski. She graduated from Tampere Communal High School in 2000 and studied acting at the Helsinki Theatre Academy, graduating in 2005. In 2007 she was chosen as an ambassador for the Church of Finland's External Aid, together with musician Juha Tapio. She is married to musician Matti Pentikäinen and they have two children.
