Maricoccus brucei is a tiny marine crustacean called an isopod. It is the only species in its genus, Maricoccus. It lives in southern Australia, including around Tasmania, in shallow waters about 10–50 meters deep. It was named in honor of Australian scientist Niel Bruce for his work on isopods. This species clings to red algae, bryozoans, and sea grasses. It grows up to about 4.6 millimeters long, with the body roughly 1.5 times longer than wide, and it has a deep purple color.
