Manoj Kumar Sharma
Manoj Kumar Sharma (born 3 July 1975) is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer who serves as the Inspector General of Police (Law & Order) of the Maharashtra Police. He grew up in poverty in Bilgaon, a village in the Chambal region of Madhya Pradesh. He studied in a local school, completed eighth grade, and later earned a BA in Hindi and History from Maharani Lakshmi Bai Government College of Excellence in Gwalior.
Sharma faced many challenges in joining the IPS. After several unsuccessful attempts at the Civil Services Examination, he cleared on his fourth try with rank 121. He joined the IPS in 2005 as part of the Maharashtra cadre. In Mumbai, he served as DCP (Zone-I) and Additional Commissioner of the West Region. He was later promoted to Inspector General of Police and has also served in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). He is currently the IG of Maharashtra Police (Law & Order).
He is married to Shraddha Joshi Sharma, an IRS officer. They have two children, a daughter named Manushree and a son named Manas, and live in Mumbai.
Manoj Kumar Sharma’s life story was told in the book Twelfth Fail by Anurag Pathak and was adapted into the 2023 film 12th Fail, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and featuring Vikrant Massey.
