The SNCF Class A1AA1A 68500 is a class of diesel-electric locomotives built for mixed-traffic and freight duties on the Paris–Chalindrey–Belfort line. They were produced from 1964 to 1968 by CAFL/CEM/SACM/Fives-Lille. A total of 29 locomotives were built, numbered 68501 through 68529, with 68500 serving as the class lead. The locomotives use a UIC A1A-A1A wheel arrangement on standard gauge (1,435 mm), with a wheel diameter of 1,250 mm, a length of 17.92 m, and a weight of 102 t. They are diesel-electric, powered by a AGO 12DSHR prime mover and electric transmission. Performance figures include a maximum speed of 130 km/h, power output of 1,985 kW, and a starting tractive effort of 298 kN.

Five units were later rebuilt as 68000 class locomotives by fitting Sulzer engines. In 1993, 13 members of the 68000 class were rebuilt back to 68500. The fleet remained in service until the last unit was withdrawn in July 2011.
