Mangalore Premier League (MPL) is a domestic Twenty20 cricket league in India started by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). In 2016, MPL attracted IPL players like K C Cariappa, Shivil Kaushik, and Kishore Kamath (Mumbai Indians), along with teams from Kings XI Punjab and Gujarat Lions, which boosted the tournament. All matches were telecast on local TV, and from the quarterfinals onward, games were shown on DD Sports. Players from the KSCA Mangalore zone—born in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kodagu and based in the Mangaluru area—were eligible for selection trials. Teams from across the Mangalore zone were divided into two pools, with participants coming from Mangalore, Kundapur, Udupi/Manipal, Karkala/Moodbidri, Surathkal/Mulki, Bantwal/Belthangady, Puttur/Sullia, Ullal, Madikeri and Virajpet. The 2016 edition featured 12 franchises, and the 2018 Season 4 also had 12 franchises.
